Respond

Since 2006, the vets and animal keepers of Ocean Park have been supporting the Cetacean Stranding Response Team of Ocean Park Conservation Foundation, Hong Kong (OPCFHK). The team collaborates with the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) to investigate stranding cases involving dolphins and porpoises in Hong Kong. Click here for more details!

If you come across such a case, please call 1823 to report it to the AFCD!

Rehabilitate

Rehabilitate

With its expertise in animal care, Ocean Park has been supporting the rehabilitation of animals confiscated or rescued by the AFCD. Some of the threatened species we have cared for include green turtles, green and black poison arrow frogs, Malayan box turtles and Chinese giant salamanders.

Release

Release

Philippa, a green turtle, was rescued in 2000. When found, she was in a critical condition with multiple lesions on her shell and limbs. We provided treatment for her bacterial and fungal infections, as well as excellent nutrition and clean shelter. It took over 10 years before she was fit to be released back into the wild in 2011. A satellite tag was attached to her back to record her oceanic migration. This can facilitate conservation work on this endangered species.

Every rescue offers opportunities for us to better understand the animal and obtain more clues on ways to protect them. A healthy habitat is essential for their return to the wild. You can help by keeping the environment clean!
