Ocean Park Halloween Haunted House Design Competition 2019

The objective of the competition is to encourage students to apply their imagination and creativity to design a new haunted house for Ocean Park’s Halloween Fest 2019, cultivating their interest and enthusiasm towards innovative design.
The winning teams will be awarded with scholarships, fabulous prizes and a chance to see their design come to life at this year’s Ocean Park Halloween Fest. Moreover, participating students may also have the opportunity to work alongside the Park’s creative team to bring a unique Halloween experience to the Park’s visitors.

Details of Competition

All full-time students of local tertiary education institutions are welcome to participate (up to five members per team). There is no limit on the number of teams from the same institution.

*Each team should appoint a team leader who will be responsible for coordinating with Ocean Park and managing all aspects of the team’s participation during the competition.

Design Theme:
Each team is required to design a haunted attraction with one of the following themes:
  1. Hong Kong ghost tales;
  2. Hong Kong horror public estate; or
  3. War game battle (by using laser gun technology)
Proposal Requirements:
The proposal can be written in Chinese or English, and must include:
  • Name, synopsis and creative ideas for the attraction;
  • Concept board (descriptions, mood boards, illustration, video, website or any other format)
  • Artwork for five chambers inside the attraction, including floor plans, virtual renderings and reference photos
  • Participants’ details (name of institution, name list of team members and team leader’s contact details)
Shortlisted teams will be invited to make a face-to-face presentation to the judging panel in March 2019.

Selection Criteria:
  • Creativity and originality (40%)
  • Relevancy, overall design and quality of artistic composition (30%)
  • Interpretation and the clarity of the theme (30%)

  • Tiffany Cheung, Senior Wardrobe Manager of Ocean Park
The best attraction design* will be awarded with the following prizes:
  • Scholarship of HK$5,000; and
  • Two Halloween Fest Premium Tickets to Halloween Fest 2019 for each team member
The winning team may get a chance to see their design come to life at Ocean Park Halloween Fest 2019. Students may also be invited to work alongside the Park’s creative team on design work for the event.

How to Enter:
Participants must submit their proposal to Ocean Park in an enclosed envelope labeled “Submission for Halloween Fest 2019 Design Competition” before 5pm on 8 March 2019 by hand or post.

By hand:
In-person submission should be made within office hours: 9:00am - 12:00pm, 2:00pm - 5:00pm on Monday to Friday; Closed on Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday.

  • By participating in the Competition, each participant agrees to the terms and conditions set out by Ocean Park. Violation of any of these terms and conditions will result in the participant being disqualified.
  • All submitted proposals will not be returned.
  • Participants must ensure that all information provided is authentic and accurate, and shall not contain any unauthorised third-party information. If the information entered is untrue, incorrect, or if there is a possibility of copyright infringement, the entry involved and the participating team will be disqualified.

  • The copyright of photos and videos used to develop the proposal are deemed properties of both the participating teams and Ocean Park. Upon submitting the proposal, the participating teams agree that Ocean Park has the right to edit, delete, duplicate, file, transfer, issue or display the photos and videos of all activities and projects for commercial, educational or non-commercial purposes.
  • Ocean Park reserves the right to make the final decision in the event of disputes, and may amend the terms and conditions or any other arrangements concerning the Competition at any stage without any prior notification.
