Ocean Park Welcomes Year of the Goat with "Vibrant Australian Charms" Celebration Float and Lucky Lunar Fiesta Brightens New Year with Ocean of Light

2015-02-03

To spread Chinese New Year cheers across the city, Ocean Park has once again unleashed its creativity in designing a float that reflects its unique character and conveys conservation messages for the 2015 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade hosted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. To celebrate the upcoming grand opening of the Adventures in Australia attraction and the 20th anniversary of the International Chinese New Year Night Parade, the Park displays a Lunar New Year party brimming with Australian charms in this year’s float, "Vibrant Australian Charms", with animal ambassadors from South Australia, to wish everyone a happy Year of the Goat!

This year’s float is themed on colourful Aboriginal-inspired pop art highlighting the animal ambassadors, including adorable koalas, red-necked wallabies and laughing kookaburras. Eucalyptus and artwork in the style of South Australia’s indigenous art further augment the float’s South Australian allure. The parade team will include professional dancers in tribal costumes; two inflatable koalas, each measuring four metres tall and two metres wide; and a group of around 30 children dressed as koalas, red-necked wallabies and laughing kookaburras. The children will be joined by Whiskers in an Australian Outback look, Le Le, Ying Ying and Redd in a celebration of song and dance that is set to be the highlight of this year’s International Chinese New Year Parade.

Ms. Julie Ng, Marketing Manager of Ocean Park, said, "Ocean Park’s ‘Vibrant Australian Charms’ float will not only spread messages about animal conservation, but also embody our commitment to environmental protection. The float is installed with eco-friendly LED lights to reduce power consumption; and just like the soon-to-open Adventures in Australia attraction, it is designed to advocate the concept of LOHAS (Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability)."

Ocean Park Lucky Lunar Fiesta Ushers in Vibrant Year of the Goat
During the Chinese New Year period from 19 February to 1 March, Ocean Park Lucky Lunar Fiesta will present guests with an extraordinary sensory experience of sights and sounds. To kick off the New Year, Ocean Park specially invited national-class performers from Sichuan for the dynamic Face Changing Fortune Beats in front of a giant Chinese opera headdress at Waterfront Plaza. The show is highlighted by rousing percussion and drumming performances, followed by stunning face changing and fire-breathing tricks by oversized puppets. Also featured will be Bamboo Jam, an acrobatic show that promises to send the Chinese New Year spirit to a fevered pitch. After enjoying the ecstatic performances, guests can visit Garden of Prosperity for a stroll amidst unique pillars with goat decorations and archways with Chinese opera hat-shaped décor. Guests would not want to miss photo opportunities with goat motifs and receive red packets from the God of Fortune. Old Hong Kong will play host to the awe-inspiring Kinetic Kung Fu Show, while Leaping Lions will be staged at various corners of the Waterfront.

At Whiskers Harbour, kids can create their own "fai chuns" by stamping peach blossoms using recycled plastic bottles and write down Chinese New Year wishes to take home.

The extremely well-received Ocean of Light, an indoor lighting spectacle with millions of eco-friendly LEDs inside the 13,000-square-foot Applause Pavilion, will feature peach blossoms and golden goat designs to complement the Chinese New Year. Guests can look forward to a galore of photo opportunities with friends and family under the festive glow of Ocean Park’s iconic attractions, including the Grand Aquarium, the Ferris Wheel, and the Cable Car, as well as over 50 glittering animal ambassadors.

A lively and festive atmosphere will fill every corner of the Summit. Guests can visit the Lucky Lunar Wind Wheels to boost their fortune and catch exciting performances such as the Dazzling Dragon Dances, Roaming Lions and New Year Dancing Sparks for a vibrant start to the Year of the Goat. There will also be photo opportunities with "fai chuns" and fire crackers throughout for guests to capture happy moments.
