Note to Parents

What should I prepare for my child?

  1. Participants should bring the following items:
    i. Backpack
    ii. Drinking water (approximately 250 mL)
    iii. Cap/ hat, jacket and raincoat (umbrella not recommended)
    iv. Hand towels/handkerchief (maintain personal hygiene and develop school readiness)
    v. Prescription medication (if necessary)
  2. For participants’ comfort and convenience, casual clothing such as sport shoes and trousers are recommended.
  3. Please put on sunscreen and/or mosquito repellent for participants before classes if necessary.

First day of class of the month

  1. The registration area will be next to the gathering and pick-up point.
  2. Registration will begin at 15 minutes prior to the start of the programme time.
  3. Please show the confirmation letter (electronic version is acceptable) and the original Ocean Park SmartFun Annual Pass of the participant (if applicable).

*The travelling time to the activity venue may take 10-15 minutes and is subject to change, depending on the weather and on the monthly theme.

How can I come to the Park?

We recommend taking available public transport to Ocean Park, such as a bus or MTR. The walk from the bus stop at Aberdeen Tunnel to Ocean Park is only 10 minutes. There is an MTR exit connecting directly to Ocean Park Main Entrance.

If you are coming to the Park by private car, there is only 30 minutes of free parking time after the car enters the parking lot. Please inform the staff that you will only stay for 30 minutes. If the parking period is longer than 30 minutes, parents are required to pay a full-day parking fee of HK$150 on off-peak days or HK$250 on peak days. Therefore, the Park does not recommend parents to come to the Park by private car, please consider using public transportation.

Can I take photos of my children?

Participants/Parents are not allowed to take photographs, videos or use mobile phones inside the classroom or Back of House areas. Participants/Parents may take photographs or videos in the public areas of animal exhibits and the Park. Educators may take photographs during programme for the monthly journal or portfolios.

What is the class arrangement during adverse weather conditions?

The programme will be cancelled under the following circumstances; replacement classes2 will be arranged for participants.
i. A red or black rainstorm warning signal issued by Hong Kong Observatory
ii. A typhoon signal number 3 or above issued by Hong Kong Observatory
iii. An announcement of suspension of kindergarten by Education Bureau
iv. Hong Kong Social Welfare Department announces suspension of child care centres

Please check the Adverse Weather Arrangement for further details. The itinerary or content of the programme may be subject to change without prior notice.

Under what circumstances should my child stay at home?

If your child is infected with any contagious diseases3 listed in the First Schedule of Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance (Chapter 599 of the Laws of Hong Kong), please stay home and the Park will arrange replacement classes for the participant2.

Can I request sick leave or a make-up class for my child?

If there is a need to apply for sick leave or personal leave, please inform Ocean Park in advance and provide relevant substantiation documents.

Reason for leave Arrangement
1. Sick Leave with doctor’s certificate
  • Subject to the providing of a doctor’s certificate dated on the programme date and availability of class, a replacement class of the same module may be arranged for participant2.
  • In any event, no refund will be arranged.
2. Personal leave
(i.e. leaves other than sick leave)
  • To be applied at least 2 days before the class date, e.g. leave for programme date on 12th October 2018 must be applied for before the 10th October 2018 at 17:00.
  • Subject to availability of class, a replacement class of the same module may be arranged for the participant. In any event, no refund will be arranged2
  • Only one application for 1 day by each participant will be allowed per month and subject to availability of class as well as non-refundable (only applicable to regular class).

Remarks:

  1. Other than sick leave and personal leave mentioned above, no replacement class will be arranged.
  2. Replacement classes would be arranged within 2 months, subject to the final arrangement of Ocean Park.
    (i.e.: if a participant takes sick leave on 12 October 2018, his/her replacement class must be completed by 11 December 2018.)
  3. Contagious diseases include  Acute Poliomyelitis,  Amoebic Dysentery,  Anthrax,  Bacillary Dysentery,  Chickenpox,  Chikungunya Fever,  Cholera,  Community-Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Infection,  Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease,  Dengue Fever,  Diphtheria,  Enterovirus 71 Infection (EV71),  Food Poisoning,  Haemophilus Influenzae Type B Infection (Invasive),  Hantavirus Infection, Influenza A (H2),  Influenza A (H3N2),  Influenza A (H5),  Influenza A (H7),  Influenza A (H9),  Japanese Encephalitis,  Legionnaires’ Disease,  Leprosy,  Leptospirosis,  Listeriosis,  Malaria,  Measles,  Meningococcal Infection (Invasive),  Mumps,  Paratyphoid Fever,  Plague,  Psittacosis,  Q Fever,  Rabies, Relapsing Fever,  Rubella And Congenital Rubella Syndrome,  Scarlet Fever,  Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome,  Severe Respiratory Disease Associated with Novel Coronavirus,  Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli infection,  Smallpox,  Streptococcus suis Infection,  Tuberculosis,  Typhoid Fever,  Typhus and other Rickettsial Diseases,  Viral Hepatitis,  West Nile Virus Infection,  Whooping Cough and Yellow Fever.

Others

  1. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation letter via email immediately. Parents can also check the junk mailbox if it is not in the inbox.
  2. Parents are advised to double check the class details before registering to meet with their child’s daily schedule. After the application is confirmed, the registered class code, date, time or participant’s name cannot be changed and no refund will be given.
  3. On each programme day, please take the body temperature of the child before classes.
  4. For Nature Exploration with Oxford Path (1.5-2 years old), Nature Exploration with Oxford Path (2-3 years old), Art and Sensory Play (1.5-3 years old) and Toddler Discovery Fun Day (1.5-3 years old), one parent/guardian or one person authorized by his/her parents/guardian (aged 18 or above) must accompany the participant throughout the 90-minute programme, admission is included. If you wish to continue exploring the Park after the class, you must purchase admission tickets or present a valid SmartFun Annual Pass.
  5. Participants of Art and Sensory Play (3-6 years old) and Discovery Fun Day (3-6 years old) must be picked up by his/her parent or a guardian authorized by the parent (Aged 18 or above) at the end of programme.
  6. Valuable items such as mobile phones and cameras are not recommended for children. If valuable items are brought, please ensure they are taken good care of by the child.
  7. Children are not allowed to take photographs, videos or use mobile phones during the programme.
  8. If there are any changes of information, participants will not be specifically notified.
  9. A decision for immediate cancellation of the programme shall be at the sole discretion of Ocean Park.
  10. In case of any dispute, the decision of Ocean Park Corporation shall be final and binding.
