Ocean Park Chairman Mr. Leo Kung, Deputy Chairman Mr. Lau Ming Wai, Chief Executive Mr. Tom Mehrmann and a number of the Park’s executive directors took on the ALS ice bucket challenge today with the help of mascots Whiskers, Ying Ying and Le Le. By accepting the nomination by Samsung Everland and Hong Kong Broadband Network, the Park hopes to raise public awareness on the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) disease, and has made a donation to the Hong Kong Neuro-Muscular Disease Association (HKNMDA).
Before taking the ice bucket challenge, Mr. Tom Mehrmann said he hoped the community would continue to pay attention to ALS patients and show support for them, and shared his personal story about how his father-in-law died from ALS, which makes him understand the impact it could have on the patient’s family. In addition to making donations, Ocean Park is also showing its support by working with HKNMDA to invite ALS patients and their families and friends for a free visit to the Park.
To continue spreading awareness on ALS, Mr. Mehrmann further nominated Hong Kong Disneyland, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and HaiChang Holdings Limited on behalf of the Park to undertake the ice bucket challenge.
