Ocean Park’s Shark Fin-free Spirit Extends Beyond the Park Shark Conservation Exhibition Featuring Two Giant Synthetic Shark Sand Sculptures Launches at Hong Kong International Airport

2014-10-08

Building on the success of the newly opened Shark Mystique attraction which advocates for the protection of sharks and marine animals, Ocean Park further expands its footprint in conservation education by launching a shark–themed exhibition at the Arrival Hall B of the Hong Kong International Airport from today till 27 March 2015. The exhibition features two giant synthetic shark-shaped sand sculptures, educational panels and a TV screen conveying messages about the importance of shark conservation and marine biodiversity, with an aim of reaching both the local community as well as arriving tourists in Hong Kong.

In addition, Ocean Park’s mascot James will hold meet-and-greet sessions with guests at the exhibition area every Saturday from today till 22 November 2014. Visitors are reminded to pick up a copy of the educational leaflet distributed at the exhibition, which will entitle them to a 10% discount on the purchase of Ocean Park admission tickets.

Ms. Suzanne Gendron, Executive Director of Zoological Operations and Education from Ocean Park, said, “As a pioneer in removing shark fin from its restaurant menu and staff banquets since 1995, Ocean Park has been looking for creative ways to engage the public on shark conservation. Thanks to the support from the Airport Authority Hong Kong, we are able to share the message with visitors from around the world at the Hong Kong International Airport. We hope that many will come away with not only fun facts about sharks’ many amazing biological features, but also a better appreciation of their roles in helping maintain healthy oceans and the importance of conserving them in the wild. I encourage you to spend a fun yet edu-taining time at this shark conservation exhibition with your beloved ones during your visit to the airport!”
