2010-10-27

(27 November 2010 – Hong Kong) The International Day of Disabled Persons (IDDP) - Ocean Park Fun Day 2010 was held today at Ocean Park for the 18th consecutive year, welcoming guests with disabilities and their friends and families from all 18 districts to the Park for free.

The IDDP Ocean Park Fun Day 2010 is organized by the Hong Kong Joint Council for People with Disabilities and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, with Ocean Park welcoming 4,000 guests to its unique attractions, including the recently-opened Chinese Sturgeon Aquarium – Yangtze Exploration and Sea Life Carousel.

Mr. Cheung Kin-fai, Chairperson of the Hong Kong Joint Council for People with Disabilities said, “We feel so grateful that it has been the 18th year Ocean Park gives people with disabilities and their carers free admission tickets. We all know that the Park is undertaking a Master Redevelopment Plan to upgrade its facilities and this year will be our final year in using the existing Main Entrance. We do look forward to seeing the new, fresh face of Ocean Park next year.”

Ocean Park Chief Executive Tom Mehrmann said, “In additional to our daily practice of offering free admission to holders of the Registration Card for People with Disabilities, we offer these valued guests not just access to the Park, but also accessibility - through extensive wheelchair access to attractions and facilities, as well as inductive loop pad systems at ticketing and guest relation windows for the hearing impaired. For the visually impaired, we have installed tactile warning strips, Braille and raised-letter guide books, as well as contour models of our thrill rides so that they could enjoy all the educational content and excitement Ocean Park offers.”
