Responding to wide¬spread environmen¬tal degradation, Gaylord Nelson, a United States Senator from Wisconsin, called for an environ¬mental teach-in (or Earth Day) to be held on April 22, 1970. Coordi¬nated by the Earth Day Network, Earth Day is now observed on every April 22nd by more than 500 million people in 175 countries.

With the collaborative efforts of Entertainment, Environmental, Health & Safety, and Education - a variety of green messages are all around the Park from April until the 3rd of May in celebration of the Earth. These messages are spread through the park-wide decora¬tions, including "Messages to the Earth" 2D panels as well as interactive 3D photo-ops, featuring the themes "Biodiversity" (at the entrance of SkyFair in Lowland), "Eco-Puppet Show" (in front of Ocean Park Tower in Headland), and "Recycle" (across from the Silk Snack Food Kiosk in Tai Shue Wan).
