Note to Parents

What should I prepare for my child?

  1. Participants should bring the following items:
    i. Backpack
    ii. Drinking water (approximately 250 mL)
    iii. Cap/ hat, jacket and raincoat (umbrella not recommended)
    iv. Hand towels/handkerchief (maintain personal hygiene and develop school readiness)
    v. Prescription medication (if necessary)
  2. For participants’ comfort and convenience, casual clothing such as sport shoes and trousers are recommended.
  3. Please put on sunscreen and/or mosquito repellent for participants before classes if necessary.

First day of class

  1. The registration area will be next to the gathering and pick-up point.
  2. Registration will begin at 15 minutes prior to the start of the programme time.
  3. Please show the confirmation letter (electronic version is acceptable) and the original Ocean Park SmartFun Annual Pass of the participant (if applicable).

How can I come to the Park?

We recommend taking available public transport to Ocean Park, such as a bus or MTR. The walk from the bus stop at Aberdeen Tunnel to Ocean Park is only 10 minutes. There is an MTR exit connecting directly to Ocean Park Main Entrance.

If you are coming to the Park by private car, there is only 30 minutes of free parking time after the car enters the parking lot. If the parking period is longer than 30 minutes, parents are required to pay a full-day parking fee.  Therefore, the Park does not recommend parents to come to the Park by private car, please consider using public transportation.

Can I take photos of my children?

Participants/Parents are not allowed to take photographs, videos or use mobile phones inside the classroom or Back of House areas. Educators may take photographs during programme for the monthly journal or portfolios.

What is the class arrangement during adverse weather conditions?

The programme will be cancelled under the following circumstances; replacement classes1 will be arranged for participants.
i. A red or black rainstorm warning signal issued by Hong Kong Observatory
ii. A typhoon signal number 3 or above issued by Hong Kong Observatory
iii. An announcement of suspension of kindergarten by Education Bureau
iv. Hong Kong Social Welfare Department announces suspension of child care centres

Ocean Park will not contact parents for adverse weather arrangement on the programme date before programme starts under normal circumstances. Please check the  Adverse Weather Arrangement under the section “Young Explorers Club” of the Park’s website for further details.

Under what circumstances should my child stay at home?

If your child is infected with any contagious diseases2 listed in the First Schedule of Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance (Chapter 599 of the Laws of Hong Kong), please stay home and the Park will arrange replacement classes for the participant1.

Can I request sick leave or a make-up class for my child?

If there is a need to apply for sick leave or personal leave, please inform Ocean Park in advance and provide relevant substantiation documents.

  • If there is a need to apply for sick leave, please inform us in advance at (852) 3923 2323 (choose the language and then press [4]). Relevant substantiation documents have to be provided.
  • Participants who need class reschedule due to personal leave must apply to the Park at least 2 days before the date of class.
  • Rescheduled class / make-up class cannot be earlier than the date of original class and only applicable to other class of the same programme.
  • Each participant is only allowed to apply for reschedule of class / attendance of make-up class of same programmes once per programme for sick leave or personal issue. No class reschedule or make-up class would be arranged for Creative Communication & Drama Play. (Personal issue is not applicable for Weekend Discovery Fun Day)
  • For any additional reschedule request on top of the once per month quota, an administration fee HK$200 would be levied for each request and the request is subject to the Park’s approval.
  • No additional / further reschedule of class or attendance of make-up class would be considered if absence.

Remarks:

  1. Under adverse weather, disease outbreak, or any other reasons which lead to YEC class suspension   initiated by the Park, make-up class / reschedule to other existing classes would be arranged for participants to choose and the quota of reschedule will not be counted.
  2. These diseases include Acute poliomyelitis, Amoebic dysentery, Anthrax, Bacillary dysentery, Botulism, Chickenpox, Chikungunya fever, Cholera, Community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Dengue fever, Diphtheria, Enterovirus 71 infection, Food poisoning, Haemophilus influenzae type b infection (invasive), Hantavirus infection, Invasive pneumococcal disease, Japanese encephalitis, Legionnaires’ disease, Leprosy, Leptospirosis, Listeriosis, Malaria, Measles, Meningococcal infection (invasive), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, Mumps, Novel influenza A infection, Paratyphoid fever, Plague, Psittacosis, Q fever, Rabies, Relapsing fever, Rubella and congenital rubella syndrome, Scarlet fever, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli infection, Smallpox, Streptococcus suis infection, Tetanus, Tuberculosis, Typhoid fever, Typhus and other rickettsial diseases, Viral haemorrhagic fever, Viral hepatitis, West Nile Virus Infection, Whooping cough, Yellow fever and Zika Virus Infection.

Others

  1. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation letter via email immediately. Parents may also pay attention if the confirmation letter was wrongly identified as spam or junk mail.
  2. Parents are advised to double check the class details before registering to meet with their child’s daily schedule. After the application is confirmed, the registered class code, date, time or participant’s name cannot be changed and no refund will be given.
  3. On each programme day, please take the body temperature of the child before classes.
  4. For Nature Exploration with Oxford Path (1.5-2 years old), Nature Exploration with Oxford Path (2-3 years old), Art and Sensory Play (1.5-3 years old) and Discovery Fun Day (1.5-4 years old), one parent or one guardian authorized by his/her parents (“guardian” has the same meaning as in the < Guardianship of Minors Ordinance >, and must be aged 18 or above) must accompany the participant throughout the 90-minute programme (including walking time between different locations), If you wish to continue exploring the Park after the class, you must purchase admission tickets or present a valid SmartFun Annual Pass.
  5. Participants of Art and Sensory Play (3-6 years old) and Creative Communication & Drama Play (3-6 years old) must be picked up by his/her parent or a guardian authorized by the parent at the end of programme.
  6. Please arrive at the gathering point punctually. Late-comers might not be admitted to the programme.
  7. Participant’s email confirmation letter should be presented for verification on the first date of visit.
  8. If participant is a SmartFun Annual Pass holder, please present the original SmartFun Annual Pass for the purpose of verification on the programme date. If the participant fails to comply, he/she must settle the price difference before the programme commencement.
  9. All participants are not allowed to leave the group without prior approval from the educator.
  10. Valuable items such as mobile phones and cameras are not recommended for children. If valuable items are brought, please ensure they are taken good care of by the child.
  11. It is prohibited to take photo, video or use mobile during the class.
  12. The itinerary or content of the programme may be subject to change without prior notice.
  13. A decision for immediate cancellation of the programme shall be at the sole discretion of Ocean Park.
  14. In case of any dispute, the decision of Ocean Park Corporation shall be final and binding.
