Arrangement for a fox which was sent to Ocean Park on July 19

2017-08-03

Ocean Park received a fox from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) (SPCA) in the morning of July 19, 2017. As agreed with SPCA, owner of the fox, the Park would provide a temporary home for the animal for around two weeks, until the genetic test results were available to identify its species as it is important to know the species of the fox before a discussion on its future could be held.

The genetic test results, which were received on August 2, indicate that the animal is a red fox.  After taking numerous factors into consideration, the Park concludes that the fox is not compatible with Ocean Park’s current collection, including the Arctic foxes, and the Park is unable to provide a suitable facility with the desired level of animal welfare standards for the fox in the long run, Ocean Park will be working with the Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and SPCA to determine the best way forward for the fox and will keep it under the Park’s care until further arrangements can be determined.
