A Grown-Up Ocean Park, Still a Kid at Heart Special guest Chief Executive Donald Tsang plus other VIPs join Ocean Park’s 30th Anniversary Gala Party

2009-01-31

(26 January 2007, Hong Kong) -- Ocean Park celebrates its 30th Anniversary by holding a spectacular park-wide Gala Party tonight. The event symbolically marks its 30th Anniversary, offering the people of Hong Kong a chance to celebrate and relive three decades of fun-filled memories. Various new attractions will be introduced at the park tonight, including riveting stage performances, exotic culinary delights, classic games of yesteryear, stunning floral arrangements, and much, much more. To commemorate this milestone event, the HKSAR Chief Executive, Mr. Donald Tsang, will make a special appearance at the park as the officiating guest of tonight’s ceremony.

“It is a tremendous honour for us to have our Chief Executive, Mr. Donald Tsang, joining us tonight, and we would like to thank him for participating,” said Dr. Allan Zeman, Chairman of Ocean Park. “We would also like to thank the people of Hong Kong and all Ocean Park guests, who helped make this park what it is today. Throughout the years, Ocean Park has grown together with Hong Kong, sharing the good times and the bad. And we hope to continue with the positive momentum into the future as we celebrate with everyone many more birthdays to come!”

“The popularity of Ocean Park is very much rooted in the Park’s founding mission: to connect guests with nature, through enriching programmes that combine entertainment with education and conservation. And as Hong Kong people’s park, it is always our pleasure to share the Park’s offerings through our social involvement initiatives, and today is no exception as we invite 9,000 people from the 18 districts to join in on the fun,” Dr Zeman said.

“Our anniversary party will bring back all the favorites from the past 30 years. Regardless of your age, there is always something here for everyone. There is so much to do, to see, and even learn! It’s such great value for money,” said Dr. Zeman.

The Ocean Park 30th Anniversary Party - A Celebration for the Senses is an exhilarating feast for all the senses. To tantalize the taste buds, renowned chefs will hold public cooking classes, while mouthwatering food from around the world is served throughout the park. There will also be live music and dance performances to highlight the ever-evolving soundtrack of Hong Kong over the past 30 years, including the lost art of night time street performances. The park will also reverberate with the sounds of jazz, and percussive ensembles. Visitors are welcome to grab a microphone, to show off their karaoke flair, or get on down the dance floor.

At the same time, the park will be filled with magnificent floral displays, many of which are made of flowers planted by local schoolchildren to commemorate the 30th Anniversary.

Guests can view a moving exhibition on Hong Kong’s 2nd longest escalator, which is lined with a fascinating photo-journal featuring historical Ocean Park memorabilia, as well as sneak previews of exciting things to come. And finally, children can visit the Classic Toy Playhouse to experience an array of toys and games from the past, or enroll in the Music Academy to explore their inner prodigies by building their own musical instruments. There will also be a family cooking class and contest at Whiskers Theatre.

The Ocean Park 30th Anniversary Party - A Celebration for the Senses will take place every weekend from now to 4th March, and every day from 19th to 23rd February, 2007. Tickets are $185 for adults and $93 for children. For enquiries, please call 2552-0291 or visit www.oceanpark.com.hk.
