OCEAN PARK CLINCHES GRAND AWARD IN HONG KONG FLOWER SHOW 2009 AS STAR AMBASSADORS OF NATURE CHEER ON THE EAST ASIAN GAMES

2009-03-13

(13 March 2009 – Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Flower Show 2009 kicked off today as Ocean Park presented its salutation to entertainment, conservation and education through an impressive floral display of signature animal icons from Ocean Park, including pandas, dolphins and sealions. The Park was also awarded the “Award for Outstanding Exhibit (Landscape Display) - Grand Award” for its extraordinary landscape architecture. Mrs. Selina Tsang, wife of the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, was one of the officiating guests at today’s opening ceremony (Photo 1) while Ocean Park’s representatives including Chairman Allan Zeman, Chief Executive Tom Mehrmann, Deputy Chief Executive Matthias Li and Executive Director of Operations Alan Chan paid tribute to the diligent Landscaping team.(Photo 2).

The Park’s presentation, entitled “Ocean Park Celebrates with Star Ambassadors of Nature”, is a dazzling kaleidoscope made up of 3,800 flowers in 18 species that included air plants and orchids; giant panda “sculptures” in Calico plants dance merrily in a bamboo forest, accompanied by sea lions and whales dressed in luscious hues of rose moss and begonia flowers. Visitors will receive a warm welcome under the floral arbor arch before a water fountain as a floating water lily garden unveils in front of them. The floral display is a lively demonstration of nature’s unique allure as well as a call to the public to welcome the East Asian Games 2009 with vigor and enthusiasm.

“We have taken part in the Hong Kong Flower Show for eight years in a row, and we are delighted to be recognized with the Award for Outstanding Exhibit (Landscape Display) - Grand Award this time around. We are thankful for the support from the Park, as well as to the Landscaping team for their efforts. We hope the public will be captivated by the euphoria of flowers and join us in anticipation for the East Asian Games in December,” said Winnie Cheng, Landscaping Manager of Ocean Park.

Ocean Park Chairman, Dr. Allan Zeman, said, “I am proud of the outstanding creations by the “green thumbs” of our Landscaping team. Ocean Park is committed to connecting guests with nature by inspiring them through our animal ambassadors, as well as the colorful and unique landscape displays all over the Park.  We always match our selections with the four seasons, as well as with our five annual events. In fact, many guests like to pose in front of our landscape displays, which have also become spectacular photo-ops throughout the year!”

The Hong Kong Flower Show 2009 is organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and will be held from 13 to 22 March 2009 at Hong Kong Victoria Park. For enquiries, please call Ocean Park’s customer hotline at 3923 2323.
