The birthday month for Hong Kong's beloved giant panda twin cubs, Jia Jia and De De, is in full swing, transforming the city into a vibrant 'panda-tastic' wonderland for citizens and tourists alike.
Ocean Park, in collaboration with the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the Hong Kong Tourism Board and The Star Ferry, today hosted a sailing inauguration to celebrate the launch of the Giant Panda Twins Birthday Edition Ferry. This specially adorned vessel will be operating on two main routes across the Victoria Harbour: Central to Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui, appearing intermittently on both routes. It will sail from 13 August 2025 until 12 October 2025, spreading cheer and excitement with every journey.
Miss Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ms Joanne Chu, Acting Commissioner for Tourism, Mr Anthony Lau, Executive Director, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mr Frankie Yick, Director of The Star Ferry and Mr Ivan Wong, Chief Executive, Ocean Park Corporation officially launch the Giant Panda Twins Birthday Edition Ferry at the Star Ferry Pier in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board Visitor Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui is also transformed into a vibrant 'panda-monium' hub. Visitors can explore various displays that showcase how the city is embracing the twin cubs' birthday joy.
At The Peak Road Garden, the charming Panda Friends installations and pop-up store set against the breathtaking backdrop of Hong Kong's skyline await visitors. These delightful Panda Friends displays are among many located across the city, inviting everyone to discover and pose for photos. Operating on Saturdays and Sundays in August, the Panda Friends pop-up store at The Peak Road Garden offers exclusive merchandise and memorabilia for purchase.
A special street sign featuring giant panda cubs Jia Jia and De De at Lugard Road provides another unique photo spot for visitors. Across 32 popular tourist streets in Hong Kong, panda-themed street signs will gradually be adorned, blending adorable twin panda images with iconic local cuisine, rich cultural elements, and famous landmarks. Each customised design offers a unique artistic touch, inviting citizens and tourists to discover these delightful art pieces throughout their city-wide journey, celebrating Jia Jia and De De's first birthday.
