Ocean Park Halloween Bash 10th Anniversary Ends on High Note as Park Hits Record Attendance for October, with Notable Rises in F&B and Retail Sales

(1 November 2010) Ocean Park Halloween Bash 2010 came to a conclusion last night under great support from the public and tourists from Mainland China and overseas. In October, the Park recorded a near double-digit percentage increase in attendance over the previous year, and in the process setting a historical high. To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Halloween Bash, Ocean Park introduced a host of creative elements this year in its ghouls, haunted attractions, food items, retail souvenir as well as marketing strategies which have all proved very popular. Sales revenue for Halloween Bash-related souvenir items is 40% higher than last year, while the figure for themed food and beverage items have recorded a substantial rise of almost 25%. Relevant promotional videos on Ocean Park Halloween Bash have attracted over 1 million hits on YouTube, a ten-time increase from last year.

Ocean Park Chief Executive Tom Mehrmann said, ‘With Ocean Park recording the highest-ever attendance for October, we would like to thank guests from Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas for their tremendous support over the years. We are proud that Ocean Park Halloween Bash has become an iconic Halloween event in the region, and would assure guests that we will continue to work hard and innovate to bring happy spooky experiences to everyone.’

Ocean Park Halloween Bash has introduced all-new haunted attractions every year, with interactivity being a focus this year. In Zombie Hunt, guests engage themselves in a battle in the underworld with infrared laser guns while in Terror Park, RFID technology was utilized to allow guests to save lost spirits. Other unique houses include Burned Alive, where guests undergo a full crematorium experience and Fang Club, which features a secret maze built in total darkness. Haunted Tales of Guangdong, built upon famous ghost stories from the province, also contributed to the wonderful Halloween party this year.

To complete the ultimate Halloween Bash experience, Ocean Park also put a lot of efforts in its F&B and retail items. The special Halloween Bash Dinner, coffin-style hot dog and $10 snacks were hot favorites and total F&B revenue for Halloween this year has rose by about 25% compared with last year. For retail souvenir items, sales revenue for Halloween Bash-related products increased by around 40%. Halloween-themed items such as head accessories, the original “amulet” neckbands and a devil-style red panda plush all proved popular. In particular, the amulets were sold out at times due to great interest.

The Ocean Park Halloween Bash 10th Anniversary has managed to become the talk of the town thanks in no small part to its successful marketing strategies. For instance, the TV commercial this year, reminiscent of a music video, incorporated the Halloween Bash dance and Ms. Law Lan, a popular actress who has starred in numerous horror movies. A “flash mob” dance call was also performed in the busy streets of Causeway Bay to attract attention to the Halloween Bash. Ocean Park also made extensive use of the online platform to launch Facebook games, as well as share the TV commercial, making-of video and footage of dance rehearsals to YouTube. Total hits have exceeded 1 million which represents a ten-time boom over the previous year.
