Dear Parents and Explorers,

Getting Ready for Little Explorers and Junior Explorers!

Welcome on board! We believe that Explorers are excited about this fabulous adventure. We hope the information below will help Explorers and parents get prepared and fully equipped.


WHAT SHOULD EXPLORERS PACK FOR PROGRAMME?

Essentials

  • Backpack
  • Water bottle
  • Jacket
  • Hat
  • Raincoat (umbrella is not recommended)
  • Cutleries, such as fork and spoon (applicable to Junior Explorers)


Optional Items

  • Tissue paper
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Sun screen
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Sunglasses
  • Prescription medication (if necessary)

Every season we end up with lots of unclaimed items. Please label all explorers’ belongings! All unclaimed items will be turned in to Lost and Found at the end of the programme.


WHAT TYPE OF CLOTHING SHOULD EXPLORERS WEAR?

Each Explorer will receive a name badge on the Registration day. Explorers are required to wear their name badges every day throughout the camp. This allows us to easily recognise Explorers when we are out in the Park with thousands of other visitors. 

  • Pants are recommended. Skirts and dresses are not advised. Explorers will be doing all sorts of activities and moving around in the park. Please come prepared to get dirty!
  • Raincoat: Camp runs daily, rain or shine. Please make sure Explorers come prepared to brave the elements. We like to get outside, even when it's wet!
  • Footwear: Please make sure Explorers wear closed-toe shoes, no flip flops as they will be running and walking long distances. Waterproof boots and a change of socks are good ideas in case of unpredictable weather!

 

WHAT FOOD AND DRINKS WILL BE PROVIDED?

  • Snacks and meals. Depending on the time and length of programmes, we will provide snacks or meals to Explorers. Please refer to the links for more details on meal arrangement.
  • Allergies. If Explorers have special dietary requirements, or allergic to anything on the menu we provide, you must specify this clearly in the Applicant Information field: “Is participant allergic to certain food/ objects/ animals?” Alternative meals will be arranged.
  • No spending money at the camp. Please do not bring money for food or gift shop items. Snacks and meals will be provided. Water supplies will be replenished frequently.

 

 

WHEN AND WHERE SHOULD PARENTS DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP EXPLORERS?

We will meet you next to the Ocean Park Main Entrance escalators, adjacent to Bus Stop 629. Please refer to the table below for the drop-off and pick-up times.

The first day will be very busy; please ensure enough time for registration. At registration, please present the confirmation letter (electronic version is acceptable) for verification. On the rest of the programme dates, parents please also bring along pick up card (will be given on the first day) for pick up purpose. 

If Explorers are going to be late or absence from programme, please notify us as soon as possible at (852) 3923 2323 (choose the language and then press [4] for Ocean Park Discovery & Education Department).

Parking
Free pick-up/drop-off parking will be provided for 30 minutes. When you enter the car park, please tell the ticketing staff you will stay for a 30-minute pick-up/drop-off. Avoid coming early and overstaying your 30 minutes!

If you want to park more than 30 minutes, HK$25 or HK$40 will be charged per hour, with a maximum charge of HK$150 or HK$200 per day, depending on the date of visit. You may reserve a parking space at least one day before your visit and pay the deposit online. Parking spaces will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Be aware that the car park often fills up fast during holidays. Please give yourself ample time to find a parking spot. For details, please click the button below.

We also recommend taking available public transport to Ocean Park, such as a bus or the MTR. The walk from the bus stop at Aberdeen Tunnel to Ocean Park is only 10 minutes. There is an MTR exit connecting directly to Ocean Park Main Entrance.


HOW DO PARENTS ASK FOR EXPLORERS TO BE ASSIGNED IN THE SAME CAMP GROUP?

You may request that friends and family be grouped together during registration on the first day, and we will try our best to meet your request (only applicable for the same class code). Each group can have a maximum of 6 Explorers.


WHAT IS THE INSTRUCTOR TO EXPLORERS RATIO?

The instructor to Explorers ratio is 1:6.


WILL ANYONE TAKE PHOTOS FOR EXPLORERS?

Ocean Park would launch personal photography service for the Explorers, please refer to “Photo Package” for further details.


WHAT DO PARENTS DO AT THE SHARING SESSION ON THE LAST DAY OF THE CAMP?

The sharing session is a 30-minute session for family members to witness and share the happiness and experience of the Explorers. Each Explorer will be given ONE complimentary daytime admission ticket to this event, and one coupon. With this coupon and a pick-up card (electronic version is acceptable), a parent can purchase a maximum of total TWO daytime admission tickets at Ocean Park Main Entrance Ticketing Office at a 50% discount (applicable to either adult or child daytime admission tickets). Please be punctual to enjoy the whole session.

11:45 am Sharing Session A maximum of TWO family members are invited to the sharing session at a designated location, usually a classroom. Please bring along your pick-up card for verification. The pick-up card will be distributed on the first day during registration and it includes the details of the gathering time and location of the sharing session. Please bring along valid admission tickets for entry and gather next to the Ocean Park Main Entrance escalators (near Bus Stop 629). Since our staff will leave the gathering location for other duties after 10:30 am, this is the only opportunity available for early admission. Please remember to ask our staff to stamp your hand for same day re-entry.
02:00 pm ALL Explorers gather All Explorers (including Explorers making use of early admission arrangements) gather next to the Ocean Park Main Entrance escalators (near Bus Stop 629).
02:15 pm Explorers enter the Park To start the last day’s activities as usual.
02:15 pm Family members enter the Park After dropping off Explorers, family members may enter during normal opening hours using valid admission tickets.

WHAT WILL EXPLORERS DO IN THE PROGRAMME?

The programme consists of indoor and outdoor activities, which include, but are not limited to, seeing animals, group games and experiments. During the programme, we will remind Explorers what to bring along each day. Please pack Explorers’ bags according to the recommended list above. WHAT IS THE PROGRAMME ARRANGEMENT DURING SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES OR WEATHER?

CAN PARENTS REQUEST SICK LEAVE FOR EXPLORERS?

1. If there is a need to apply for sick leave, please inform us in advance at (852) 3923 2323 (choose the language and then press [4]). Relevant substantiation documents have to be provided.
2. Subject to the presentation of a doctor’s certificate, a partial refund of impacted day(s) will be arranged after deducting an administration fee of HK$200.
3. If the affected programme date is on the last day of the programme, the complimentary daytime admission ticket, coupon and discounted daytime admission tickets cannot be rescheduled, refunded or redistributed.
4. An administration fee of HK$200 will be charged to each sick leave (with doctor’s certificate), course change or refund request. Applicants must fill in the refund/ reschedule application form and return to the Park for processing.

Welcome on board! We know that Explorers are excited about this fabulous adventure and staying out overnight. We understand that parents are wondering what Explorers will be doing and what they should pack. We hope that the information below will prepare Explorers to be fully equipped.

Sleeping bags and mattresses will be provided for all Explorers. If the Explorer has a “sleeping buddy” such as a personal pillow, blanket or personal sleeping bag and mattress, they are welcome to bring it along.


WILL SHOWER FACILITIES BE PROVIDED?

No. Explorers will be experiencing a night without a shower. They, however, can bring an extra set of clothes and change in the restroom.


WHAT WILL EXPLORERS DO IN THE PROGRAMME?

The camp includes indoor and outdoor activities. During the adventure, we will remind Explorers what to bring along each day. Please pack Explorers’ bag according to the packing list mentioned above. For an overview of the programme, please refer to the programme content below.

Can Parents request sick leave for EXPLORERS?

1. If there is a need to apply for sick leave, please call us in advance at (852) 3923 2323 (choose the language and then press [4] for Ocean Park Discovery & Education Department). Relevant substantiation documents have to be provided.
2. Subject to the presentation of a doctor’s certificate and availability of programme, the programme may be rescheduled after deducting an administration fee of HK$200 depending on the enrolment of the programme.
i. Ocean Park reserves the right to change the instructor, time, venue and content of any rescheduled programme.
ii. Subject to the presentation of a doctor’s certificate, in case class cannot be rescheduled, a refund will be made.
iii. An administration fee of HK$200 will be charged to each sick leave (with doctor’s certificate), programme change or refund request. Applicants must fill in the programme refund/ reschedule application form and return to the Park for processing.
