Frequently Asked Questions

General

  1. Q: What qualifications do the educators at OPAHK have? Have they undergone any training before delivering the programmes?
    A: Most of our educators are degree holders in biological science, education or related disciplines. They have been well-trained and must pass the relevant assessments and evaluations before delivering any OPAHK programmes.
     
  2. Q: Are there any available OPAHK programmes for individual application?
    A: No, OPAHK only accept application from schools classified under the school level of Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government as “kindergartens”, “primary schools” or “secondary schools” (including special schools among these school levels), and not available for schools classified as “others” by the Bureau. Charitable institutions and trusts of a public character which are exempt from tax under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance are also eligible for OPAHK programme application. Interested students should contact their school or organisation for enrollment.

Application Procedure

  1. Q:  Can non-school organisation apply for OPAHK programmes?
    A:
    Non-school organisation can only apply for OPAHK programmes if they are exempted from tax under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance.
     
  2. Q: How do I know if my application is successful?
    A: For local school education programmes
    , applicants will be informed within 10 working days (upon receipt of a completed application) of the application result.
    For charitable organisations education programmes, applicants will be informed within 14 working days (upon receipt of a completed application) of the application result.

  3. Q: What is the programme capacity? Are there any special arrangements for groups of over 300 students?
    A:
    For local school education programmes, the capacity for each programme is between 20-40 students. For charitable organisation education programmes, the capacity for each programme is between 15-30 students. Our daily capacity is up to 1,000 students. If schools would like to arrange 300 or above students to participate in the programmes, please contact our staff at 3923 2323 (select the language and press [4]).
     
  4. Q: If a student cannot attend a programme for which he/she has paid in advance, can he/she receive a refund?
    A: 
    The school/ organisation may arrange a replacement to attend the programme, any fee paid would not be refunded.
     
  5. Q: Will there be any refund if the programme is cancelled due to adverse weather?
    A:
    In the occurrence of the following events, OPAHK will reschedule the visits for the school/ organisation affected to a new date within a month of the affected day:
    • The Hong Kong Observatory issues a Red or Black Rainstorm Warning Signals, or;
    • The Hong Kong Observatory issues Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals Number 3 or higher, or;
    • The Education Bureau announces class suspension of all schools or the Social Welfare Department announces the closure of all welfare service units of the department, all child care centres and centres providing after school care programmes.
  6. Q: How do students with special educational needs join the programme?
    A:
    We make every effort to ensure students with special educational needs receive the equal learning opportunities. We work closely with teachers and make necessary adjustments to the programme content and setting of the venue to suit the needs of the students.   7. Q: What is the medium of instruction?
    A:
    All programmes are conducted in Cantonese, English or Putonghua and the requests should be indicated in advance on the application form.

Programme Day Arrangement

  1. Q:  Can we enjoy free parking on the programme day?
    A:
     Each coach can enjoy a 15-minute complimentary pick-up/drop-off time at Ocean Park Entrance. Additional fee will be charged for parking.
     
  2. Q: Can students or teachers stay-behind at Ocean Park after the programmes?
    A:
    All participants are expected to leave Ocean Park after the education programme. Participants who would like to remain at the Park and enjoy its facilities after the programme must apply in advance and pay a stay-behind surcharge. 
     
  3. Q: Can we take pictures or videos during the programme?
    A:
    During the programme, photographs may be taken for personal use. However, video-taking is not allowed. All photos and videos taken at Ocean Park are not allowed for commercial use without prior approval from Ocean Park Corporation. Admission to the Park signifies your permission and agreement for Ocean Park to take and use your photographs and videos for educational and promotional purposes.
