Ocean Park Captures Three Decades of Hong Kong Life To Celebrate its 30th Anniversary Ocean Park Launches a People’s Photo Album for Animal Conservation

2006-07-16

July 16, 2006, Hong Kong – From an initial submission of close to 6,000 photographs sent in by the public who have visited the park over the park’s 30-year history, a special photo album was produced, and launched today, by the park’s Chief Executive, Mr Tom Mehrmann. The ‘Our Ocean Park – 30 Years of Memories’ photo album captured three decades of Hong Kong life at the park, during which 76 million people have visited. Cheered on by local families and prominent Hong Kong figures, including Hong Kong Tourism Board’s (HKTB) Executive Director, Clara Chong and members of the Legislative Council (LEGCO), the Honourable Alan Leong Kah-kit, SC, and the Honourable Sin Chung-kai, JP and their families, the event celebrated Ocean Park’s resilient spirit.

The ‘Our Ocean Park – 30 Years of Memories’ photo album contains 400 unique photographs of Hong Kong residents taken at the Park since 1977. The photos were selected earlier this year from the 6,000 submissions sent in by the public. To leverage on Ocean Park’s mission to be a community driven ‘people’s park,’ some of the 30 families whose photographs appeared in the album were also invited to the event.

Executive Director of HKTB, Ms Clara Chong and Legco members, the Hon Alan Leong Kah-kit, SC and the Hon Sin Chung-kai, JP, whose photographs were featured in the photo album, all shared their precious memories of the park with all the audiences.

“We are delighted that Ocean Park continues to thrill and inspire people thirty years on. We are truly grateful for the support of our guests, all of whom have helped make us Hong Kong’s most loved theme park. It is indeed an honour for us to have the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Ms Clara Chong, Legco members Mr Alan Leong and Mr Sin Chun-kai, and all the happy families here today, to share this moment with us, and to tell their stories and memories of the park over three wonderful decades,” said Tom Mehrmann, Chief Executive, Ocean Park.

The photo album is produced and published by Bbluesky Company Limited, and proceeds from sales will be donated to the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation, Hong Kong (OPCFHK), to further their work on education and conservation of endangered wildlife and habitats throughout Asia.

‘Our Ocean Park – 30 Years of Memories’ will debut at the Hong Kong Book Fair to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre during 19th July and 24th July. In addition, limited edition copies signed by Andy Lau Tak-wah, OPCFHK Conservation Ambassador, will be available at the Hong Kong Book Fair for HK$500 per copy (limited 30 copies only). Deluxe hard cover version will cost HK$350, and regular version will cost HK$100 per copy.
