Hong Kong Pandas Star in Anna Huang’s Panda Chinese Ink Painting Exhibition Translating Conservation and Education into Practice with an Engaging Workshop for Youngsters

2026-03-11

Ocean Park is delighted to announce its partnership with celebrated giant panda ink painting artist Huang Shiang Ling for the Anna Huang Panda Art Exhibition and a workshop for youngsters designed to bring the charm of giant pandas to life through traditional Chinese ink painting. 11 new paintings featuring Hong Kong’s six adorable giant pandas, officially unveiled on Monday (9 March 2026) at the Park, will form a central part of this creative collaboration.

The exhibition promises a visual feast, showcasing 62 captivating artworks. Scheduled to be held at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, Wan Chai from 2 to 8 April 2026, the collection includes Huang's previous iconic creations of giant pandas, serene “shanshui” landscapes, and the special series of 11 new paintings inspired by Hong Kong’s very own, much-loved giant pandas.

Diverging from her previous creations which were often inspired by the ecological and environmental aspects of Sichuan or traditional ink painting imagery, this exhibition focuses specifically on the Hong Kong-born twin pandas Jia Jia and De De, their parents Le Le and Ying Ying, as well as An An and Ke Ke, the third pair of giant pandas gifted to Hong Kong by the Central Government. Net proceeds from the sale of artworks at the exhibition will be donated to support Ocean Park’s conservation work, making a perfect fusion of ink art and wildlife conservation.

Huang shared her enthusiasm for showcasing the park’s furry superstars: “Bringing Ocean Park’s giant pandas to my canvas is my way of giving a big, artistic hug to the Hong Kong audience. It truly highlights how these magnificent creatures act as a charming bridge between culture and conservation. Through these pieces, I hope to spread the message of harmonious coexistence, inspiring everyone to embrace conservation, respect life, and ponder our balance with nature.”

Huang dedicated many hours to observing their unique antics and expressions. “I visited Ocean Park many times, and each panda has a personality as distinct as their paw prints!” she quipped. “Some love a lazy sprawl, others are hilariously dedicated to their bamboo. These little quirks are pure gold for my art. Panda fans might even spot the Hong Kong panda vibe in their posture, gaze or even fur patterns – that’s the playful challenge of ink painting, capturing their true spirit!"

Inspiring youth through educational workshop
Adding to the fun, a fantastic youth education event, the Shui-mo Painting Workshop: Jia Jia & De De, saw more than 100 students from diverse backgrounds join the artistic adventure on 8 March 2026 at Ocean Park, including participants from the Strive and Rise Programme, Correctional Services Pioneer Leaders (CSPL), and Ocean Park's Seahorse Rangers.

Distinguished guests, including the Under Secretary for Education Dr Sze Chun Fai, Jeff JP (third from the left); Commissioner of Correctional Services Wong Kwok Hing CSDSM (third from the right); Social Welfare Department Assistant Director (Youth & Corrections) Chan Lai Chu (second from the right); Chairlady of the Strive and Rise Programme Group Activities Advisory Committee Liu Ling Ling, Samantha MH (second from the left); Honorary Director of the CSPL Honorary Advisory Committee Sunny Sy (first from the left); and Honorary President of Bai Yun Tang Art Association Dr Hsieh Ling Ling (first from the right), were also in attendance.

“It’s a meaningful and fun-filled event bridging art, conservation and education. Through the beauty of ink painting, participants deepened the understanding of giant pandas, helping them to appreciate the importance of conservation and put it into practice in daily lives. This directly tied into the Park’s core mission to inspire a love for nature and foster conservation education through engaging and unique experiences,” said Ivan Wong, Chief Executive of Ocean Park Corporation.

The three magnificent large-scale ink paintings of Jia Jia and De De, co-created by Huang and the guests and young talents at the workshop, will be featured in the exhibition.
Huang emphasised the profound symbolism of giant pandas, describing them as eco-superheroes embodying humanity’s hope and responsibility for the natural world. Beyond simply portraying their undeniable cuteness, she aims for her ink art to gently prompt people to contemplate ecological challenges. She believes art can be a wonderfully soft yet incredibly powerful force for conservation.
