Ocean Park Animal Discovery Fest 2019 Presents All-new “Meet the Walrus” Experience

First collaboration with Green Monday to launch new vegetarian dishes

Mark your diaries, for Ocean Park Animal Discovery Fest is back from 19 April to 1 May 2019. Guests can get up-close with Park animals at the all-new “Meet the Walrus” experience programme as well as 13 interactive animal workshops and backstage explorer tours. For the first time ever, Ocean Park’s Veterinary Centre will be open to the public to allow guests to better understand the wide array of animal ambassadors at the Park and the work of the Park’s veterinary team.
In addition, the Park is collaborating with Green Monday to introduce a variety of creative and nutritious vegetarian dishes made with plant-based meat boasting incredible meat-like texture and taste, which is highly popular in Europe and the US. Additionally, to promote green living and raise awareness of environmental conservation, a low-carbon Easter Dinner Buffet Fiesta and new eco-friendly merchandise will be available.
All-new Limited-time “Meet the Walrus” Experience Programme
The new “Meet the Walrus” experience programme will allow guests to observe these large-sized marine mammals with prominent tusks up-close, touch and feed them, and even have chance to take a snap together. Guests who would like to learn more about fun facts and husbandry knowledge on the Park’s animal ambassadors, including the adorable kinkajou and the extraordinary steppe eagle, can participate in the Interactive Animal Workshops and Backstage Explorer Tours (see attached table for details). During Animal Discovery Fest, guests can also enjoy 50% off the second seat upon purchase of two seats for the “Dolphin Encounter” programme*, a unique experience for all dolphin-lovers!
Veterinary Centre Special Opening and JC-WISE Water Fun Fest 2019
In commemoration of its 10th anniversary, the Ocean Park Veterinary Centre will be open to the public for the first time. The world-class treatment and clinical facilities will be on display, where professional veterinary and laboratory staff can share some of their experiences working on a diverse range of animals. At the same time, Water Fun Fest 2019, the highlight of public education campaign of the “Jockey Club Water Initiative on Sustainability and Engagement”, initiated by The University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Social Sciences and funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, will be held at Ocean Park to raise the importance of attaining long-term water sustainability for Hong Kong through the promotion of the Water Footprint concept and the multiple values of river in the community. Stay tuned for more details in mid-April.
Creative Vegetarian Dishes by Ocean Park and Green Monday
Meanwhile, Ocean Park is also collaborating with Green Monday, a social enterprise promoting green living, to introduce the plant-based meat in a variety of innovative vegetarian dishes during Animal Discovery Fest. With appetising dishes such as the “Beyond Meat Cheese Burger”, “Deep-fried Fishless Fillet” and “Fried Omnipork with Bean Curd, Eggplant and Green Bell Pepper in Hong Kong Style”, guests will be able to have a taste of being a vegetarian and also reflect on the positive environmental impact of being meat free.

During the Easter holidays from 19 to 22 April, Ocean Park’s Club Panda restaurant will present the “Easter Dinner Buffet Fiesta” featuring “Roasted Kumamoto Kurobuta Pork Loin” and “Roasted New Zealand Rack of Lamb with Herbs” as main course dishes, and delicious desserts like the “Raspberry Panna Cotta and Passion Fruit Mousse”. A Plant-based Meat Station will offer several popular low-carbon vegetarian choices such as “Sauté Diced Beefless with Sesame Crusted Walnuts in Black Pepper Sauce” and “Meatless Spaghetti Bolognaise”, while an Easter Chocolate Egg Workshop will be available during the dinner buffet for kids to have fun creating their own Easter eggs.
