Ocean Park Christmas Sensation 2007 Opens with "A Celebration of Life" A Star-Studded Kick-off With Hong Kong Cancer Fund's 20th Anniversary

2007-12-17

(Hong Kong 15 December 2007) To kick-off the city's snowiest, and most highly anticipated Christmas event of the year, Ocean Park teamed up with Hong Kong Cancer Fund to host a sparkling Charity Preview Night for Ocean Park Christmas Sensation. Co-hosted by Mr. Tom Mehrmann, Chief Executive of Ocean Park, and Mrs. Sally Lo, Chairman of Hong Kong Cancer Fund, more than 4,500 people attended the event, including cancer survivors and their families, VIP donors, corporate sponsors, advisors, supporters of the Cancer Fund, members of the media, and celebrity Hong Kong Cancer Fund Ambassador, Miss Sammi Cheng. Guests enjoyed an exclusive preview of the headlining attraction, Ice Spectacular!, a Las Vegas ice-skating production on real ice, featuring an international cast of champion skaters from nine countries, followed by a heartwarming carol-singing performance by a group of laryngectomees - cancer survivors whose voice box have been removed - before proceeding to this season's inaugural tree-lighting ceremony at the Park's stunning 40-foot Christmas Tree. Together with Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd. and other sponsors of Hong Kong Cancer Fund, the event raised more than $800,000 towards the fund's ongoing cancer services.

Ocean Park Christmas Sensation is one of the largest and most highly-attended Christmas events in the city. From today until 1 January 2008, the park will be transformed into a winter wonderland for kids and families, with real snow attractions throughout all corners of the park, and more than 20 additional custom designed, world-class Christmas attractions across four festive themes - Icy Plaza, Festive Fun, International Christmas, and Parkwide Festive Galore.* The Park's animal ambassadors also get into the festive spirit, with the giant pandas playing with snowballs, and Santa making an underwater appearance every day to feed the sea creatures at the Atoll Reef.

“Ocean Park Christmas Sensation has been an annual highlight for the city, and for all of us at Ocean Park for the past six years, and it just keeps getting bigger and better; in fact, we have been breaking our attendance record every December, and we look forward to welcoming our guests and treating them to an unforgettable Christmas experience - especially for our younger guests,” said Mr. Mehrmann. “It also gives us great pleasure to team up with Hong Kong Cancer Fund for this Charity Preview Night, and to help raise funds for such a worthy cause," he added.

"We wanted our 20th Anniversary to be a fun event, offering a memorable gift to our cancer survivors, loyal supporters and friends, and we’re very grateful to Ocean Park for partnering with Cancer Fund to create this special charity evening," said Mrs. Lo. "Ocean Park is a great venue that has been bringing joy to Hong Kong families for the past 30 years through their unique offerings of animals, education and entertainment, and we want to extend this experience to everyone who forms part of the Cancer Fund family.

" Ocean Park Christmas Sensation begins today and continues through 1 January 2008, with daily openings from 9:30am to 8pm. Admission is $208 for adults and $103 for children aged 3 to 11. Local senior citizens aged 65 and over, and citizens with the Registration Card for Disabled Persons, can enjoy free admission.
