Island South Discovery - Little Explorer & Little Geologist

If you love exploring nature and the ecological landscape, longing to know more about the Southern District and fishing industry culture, “Island South Discovery” is the new series that will excite you about the local heritage and history. Offering three programmes with unique itineraries - become a little sailor and board the “Baby Shark” themed ferry to enjoy the astonishing coastal scenery of the southern district, and sketch to record the magnificent scenery. Let’s go for an “ocean ride with baby shark”! Join “Little Geologist” where you can learn about the distinctive coastal ecology and sea caves on the boat rides; or follow Ocean Park’s Whiskers Villagers to join “Little Voyager”, experience the culture of fisherman village, and learn about basic marine and conservation knowledge through interactive games on board. You will be surprised by the beauty of Hong Kong and its magnificent coastline from a different perspective! 

Little Explorer – Ocean Ride with Baby Shark (The programme will be offered in the form of a package tour for those who are interested)

Baby Shark has took a long “swim” to visit the breathtaking coast of Southern District! Pinkfong & Baby Shark now invite you all to set sail to admire the scenic landscape, have a taste of the life of a little sailor and stroll along Southern District with Baby Shark.

This Lunar New Year, Ocean Park partners with Pinkfong & Baby Shark to launch the “Little Explorer - Ocean Ride with Baby Shark”. Not only can the children interact with Pinkfong & Baby Shark ashore, but we also encourage you all to dress up and put on your sailor costume to get on the Baby Shark-themed ferry! We can learn to tie knots like a little sailor and explore the Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter.

On our journey looking at the sea caves and around typhoon shelter, little sailors can enjoy sketching on the deck by observing the nature’s spectacle and pen down your observation. You can even “swim” together with Baby Shark in your canvas! Let’s take a unique ferry trip at the beginning of the year, prepare your sailor costumes and join the “Little Explorer - Ocean Ride with Baby Shark”!

Can’t wait to sail off into the blue to have an adventurous trip? If you’re interested in ecological geology, it’s time for you to act! Ocean Park has launched a brand-new programme, “Little Geologist”, which guides you to an exploratory trip heading towards Southern District. Parents and children can get on a thrilling boat tour and explore more along the coastal area. Observing sea waves and how splashing waves crashing on rocks, you can understand more about Hong Kong coastal landforms and marine conservation, as well as visiting various fundamental attractions including military landmarks and waterworks! Come and start your surprising ecological and cultural trip!

If you hope to appreciate the scenery of Southern District and long to learn basic marine knowledge, the “Little Voyager” is a tour that you mustn’t miss! Follow Ocean Park’s Whiskers Villagers to go out of the classroom and get on a marine adventure. You can have a closer look at the unique coastline and local geography from a new perspective, deepen your understanding of southern heritage and customs conservation through interactive games on board while kindle the interests of children in Hong Kong history and marine. Let’s create valuable sailing memories with your family together!

    • Interact with Pinkfong & Baby Shark at the Ocean Park Tai Shue Wan Pier
    • Have a glance at the coast of Southern District and Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter
    • Get to know the life of the fishermen and learn more about tying knots
    • Sketch on the boat and create your own masterpiece (The Park will provide essential drawing tools)

    Participant age The programme is suitable for participants aged 3 to 75. Participants under the age of 3 are not recommended.
    However, participants who are under the 18 years old must be accompanied by a paying parent/guardian who satisfies all programme requirements.
    An eligible paying parent / guardian can accompany a maximum of ONE eligible paying participant aged 3 -11 or TWO eligible paying participants aged 12-17.

    Remarks
    • Participants are suggested to dress up as sailors during the tour  
    • Tai Shue Wan Pier will be closed if Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 or above is issued by Hong Kong Observatory within three days before the programme date. The ferry will be berthed at Aberdeen Tsui Wah Ferry Pier for guests boarding or disembarking.  
    • Programme will be carried out on the boat, and there will not be disembarkation until the end of the activity. If participants are prone to seasickness or quick to feel unwell, please prepare your own medicines.  
    • Participants are recommended to bring along adequate clothing that gives protection against coldness, wind, rain and apply sunblock gear. Casual wear and sports shoes/hiking shoes are strongly recommended. Avoid wearing loose items. 
    • As space is limited on boat, baby strollers, toddler car seats or high chairs are not recommended to bring along. If there’s any special requirement, please raise during registration.  
    • All participants must provide their full name (same as Hong Kong Identity Card/Passport) and last 4 digits of HKID/passport number for purchasing of event insurance. Participants must confirm that all information provided is genuine and correct. Participants will not be able to join the programme if they fail to purchase insurance due to incorrect or omissions of information.
    • The programme may be cancelled or have activities changed due to adverse weather. In case of bad weather and sea conditions during the activity, the captain or the Park’s staff has the authority to suspend activities on the deck, or even suspend the voyage. The park will not arrange for refunds, change of activity dates or any compensation. 
    • The programme will be cancelled due to inclement weather, participants will be notified via phone, email or SMS. Thank you for your attention.

        Programme Content

        There are two routes available for the tour. You can choose whichever one interests you the most, to explore different districts and immerse yourself in Hong Kong’s uniqueness.  

        Route No.1: Little Geologist - Surf in History Tour (Programme has ended on 15 Jan 2023. Thank you for your support.)

        The Southern District is not only a popular destination for local tourists, but it also has a plenty of landmark attractions with rich cultural history. Participants can go on a thrilling jet boat tour, which is the only inflatable jet boat tour in Hong Kong lead by certified EcoGuide, to observe the "strange rocks" along the coast at Repulse Bay and Tai Tam Bay. During the tour, you will visit different landmark attractions, including Murray House in Stanley, the "Wordless Monument" in Tai Tam Bay and waterworks. Apart from learning about Hong Kong's military history and nautical knowledge, you can also create unforgettable memories with family and friends.

        Route No.2: Little Geologist - Life on Coast Tour (The programme will be offered in the form of a package tour for those who are interested)

        Having an irregular coastline, the Southern District is a "private canvas" of nature. If you want to appreciate this vast "landscape painting", board the "Little Geologist" now! Adults and children can take a Chinese sailing boat to have a closer look at the beauty of different rocks, including the "Godzilla Rock" in Tau Chau and the sea caves around Middle Island, and seize the chance to visit the Ocean Park Intake Station to reveal the "secrets of the pond water" in the Park. Our EcoGuide will introduce traditional fishing techniques and fishermen’s lives on the sea. The journey will not only bring treasurable memories, but also deepen the children's knowledge and interest in Hong Kong's geology and marine conservation.

          Remarks
          • This programme is not recommended for any person who is pregnant, suffers from heart disease, neck and spinal problems or in precarious health condition. 
          • Programme will be carried out on the boat, and there will not be disembarkation until the end of the activity. If participants are prone to seasickness or quick to feel unwell, please prepare your own medicines.
          • Participants may get wet during the activities, please bring along adequate clothing that gives protection against coldness, wind, rain and apply sunblock gear. Casual wear and sports shoes/hiking shoes are strongly recommended. Avoid wearing loosen items.
          • For safety reasons, the participants of “Little Geologist - Life on Coast Tour” who are between 3 to 11 years old are recommended to wear life jackets throughout the voyage.
          • Participants are required to comply with the Hong Kong Government’s latest anti-pandemic guidelines.
          • All participants must provide their full name (same as Hong Kong Identity Card/Passport) and last 4 digits of HKID/passport number for purchasing of event insurance.
