HONG KONG RED CROSS CHINA RELIEF FUND TO RECEIVE HK$1 MILLION FROM OCEAN PARK STAFF CONSERVATION ARM OPCFHK TO ALLOCATE RMB $1 MILLION FOR PANDA RESERVE RELIEF AND RECONSTRUCTION

2008-05-16

(Hong Kong – 16 May 2008) Ocean Park staff all rallied together on their own initiative to support the drive to collect money to be donated to the Hong Kong Red Cross China Relief Fund to help relief work in the areas affected by the earthquake in Sichuan. With Ocean Park fully supporting the initiative and making up for the rest, HK$ 1 million will be donated to Red Cross.

Additionally, Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong (OPCFHK,) the Park’s conservation arm, will allocate $1 million (RMB) to be used to support relief and reconstruction works of panda preservation facilities, including the homes of An An, Jia Jia, Le Le and Ying Ying. OPCFHK has already notified the State Forestry Administration of their intentions.

Ocean Park Chairman, Allan Zeman, said, “We send our deepest regards to the people living in the affected areas, as well as to all the staff at the panda research and conservation centres. We hope that our support can contribute to make a difference in some way to help those affected through this difficult time of rescue, relief and recovery.”
