Ocean Park Halloween Bash Recruits Models for First Time Nearly 1,100 Openings for Asia’s Trendiest and Most Terrifying Celebration

2012-06-27

(27 June 2012 – Hong Kong)Now in its 12th year, Ocean Park Halloween Bash, Asia’s largest Halloween celebration, is issuing an open call for models and fashionistas who dare to take their catwalking skills to a scary level. This year’s home-grown Halloween party is set to be the trendiest ever as, for the first time, Ocean Park is working with local fashion icon Mr. Wyman Wong, who will be involved in designing the creepiest costumes to be featured in a fashion catwalk show. A judging panel will select 500 ghastly performers for the event through eight days of auditions to be held between 28 June and 11 July*. Ocean Park is also recruiting an addition of over 500 operational staff to handle the extra guest traffic during the seasonal presentation. Successful candidates for backstage vacancies could earn up to HK$234 per hour, depending on the position, their talent and experience; while performers and models can earn up to HK$130 per hour with up to an additional 20% of salary as bonus, according to individual performance.

Eva Au Yeung, Events & Entertainment Director of Ocean Park, said, “To complement the theme of this year’s Halloween Bash as the hippest horror fest, we have for the first time created a number of modeling positions. The successful candidates will strut down a catwalk in fearsome fashion as part of our Scaremonies presentation. The candidates will be evaluated on their modeling techniques.”

“Over the years, a broad range of talents have joined us to present the most frightful and fun celebration for Halloween fans from all over the world. Among our alumni of performers are professional actors and models, full-time students, sports instructors, flight attendants and more. As always, we are looking for fresh blood, who are passionate about engaging guests through their performances or helping us elevate the fright factor in various production related positions.” Ms. Au Yeung continued.

Halloween Bash has also grown to become a unique nurturing ground for theme park talents. Many people who shone during their tenure in Halloween Bash eventually became permanent members of the Ocean Park family.

Wong Man-shing, along with his brother Wong Man Kit, performed as ghosts in many editions of Halloween Bash before joining Ocean Park as a permanent staff recently. Eager to share his enthusiasm for performing in Halloween Bash, he said, “Ocean Park Halloween Bash is an ideal training ground for people from all walks of life who are crazy about preforming. My brother and I have witnessed how Halloween Bash and the performers have exceeded themselves year after year because Ocean Park embraces creativity and inspires its staff to do likewise.”

Another Halloween Bash veteran also found his calling in the theme park industry through working in Halloween Bash. Having started in Halloween Bash as an intern while still in university, Winston Li Ho-yin, was recently hired as Area Manager fresh out of school. He said, “My 5 years working in Halloween Bash allowed me to appreciate the wide range of career paths Ocean Park offers, so it was very natural for me to look to Ocean Park as a potential launching pad of my career after graduation. I encourage anyone looking for a fun learning experience to consider working in Halloween Bash.”

Positions to be recruited during the open auditions include: performers, stunt performers, extreme sports specialists, singers, musicians, dancers, gymnasts, jugglers and models; and backstage positions such as house and stage crew, performer leads, stage managers, area coordinators, talent coordinators, house coordinators, designers, roving escorts, drivers, technicians, animatronics specialists and dressers. A judging panel will evaluate talents on the scariness of their catwalk skills, acting skills, and impromptu reading. Their final score will be based on their performance, special talents and relevant experience. Other park operation roles, including retail and food and beverage positions, will be recruited through the Labour Department’s website and other recruitment channels. Depending on the job duties involved, successful candidates will undergo a series of training on performance, make-up, etiquette for engaging with guests, and protocols for handling contingencies. The successful candidates will start their month-long tenure of terror in late September.

*Auditions for Halloween Bash 2012 will be held on 28-30 June, 2, 6-8 and 11 July at Eaton Hotel Hong Kong, Dance Studio 6 of HKAPA (dancers only) and Hong Kong East Job Centre of Labour Department (backstage positions only). Candidates must be 16 years of age or older. Details are available at www.halloweenbash.com.hk.
