First Street Dance Competition “Summer Dance Jam” Concludes Successfully and Brings Summer Carnimal to a Finish

Ocean Park’s first-ever street dance competition “Summer Dance Jam” held during this year’s Summer Carnimal has attracted over 100 leading local street dancing talents and successfully reached its conclusion on 1 September. The winners of the “individual battle” and “team battle” competitions were Lau Sin Yi and HPX respectively. To further promote street dance culture, the Park will host a “Dance Jam Fever” competition on 15 and 22 September for talented street dancing children and young adults to unleash their potential. In addition, a professional dance showcase by famous local dance groups and the dance societies of different universities will be staged on 29 September to maximise the city’s street dancing momentum.

“The response to ‘Summer Dance Jam’ was fantastic. We are in search of the next generation of dance talents and will now provide a performance stage for children and youngsters who love street dance with our new “Dance Jam Fever” competition in September,” said Matthias Li, Chief Executive of Ocean Park.

Lau Sin Yi, the “individual battle” champion of “Summer Dance Jam”, said, “I am honoured to win Ocean Park’s first ‘Summer Dance Jam’ and happy to have the opportunity to learn from other dancers. The audience was really enthusiastic and encouraging, which made the event so exciting and I enjoyed every moment on stage in Ocean Park.”

The “team competition” champion HPX said, “Our team prepared for over a month for this competition so that we could hone our dancing skills. We could only practise late at night since we were all busy at work. This championship definitely tested us and recognised our effort. I hope that Ocean Park will continue to promote local street dance culture by providing local dancers a special performance stage.”

Ocean Park will host the new “Dance Jam Fever” competition next to the Aqua City Lagoon at Lakeside Chill. The competition includes “individual “and “team” competitions, which will be held at 6:45pm on 15 and 22 September respectively. Each participant aged between six and 13 will receive a complimentary Ocean Park daytime general admission ticket and the winner will be rewarded with the special learning experience of “Get Closer to the Animals” programme. Visitors can enjoy free entry to the Park’s Lakeside Chill area from 6:30pm onwards on competition days to cheer for the dancers.
